City of Sparks was formed in early 2011 when Benjamin Bermiller (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) won a contest that Dan Redekop (Lead Guitar and Backup Vocals) held at the Quaaout Lodge Resort and Conference Centre in 2011. Discovering after only a few jam sessions that something special was happening, the two decided to take a more serious look at making the project a full time band. The two founding members, just a month after forming City of Sparks, went on to win the 2011 Revelstoke Music Festival's "Battle of the Bands", blowing the judges away with their original tunes. Shortly thereafter, they knew it was time to get into the studio to start on a City of Sparks EP. After a few successful recording sessions at Big Audio Productions in Kelowna, B.C., it was time to add a backline to their sound. Shawn Edwards stepped up to the plate as the rhythm section for City of Sparks and has made huge contributions to the band's sound. The boys fit together seamlessly and for the past 12 months, this new threesome have played many different venues in the Interior, showcasing their professionalism and their love of performing. All three members of City of Sparks have stated, "We love the music, and we love to play it, which means we give it our all every time we get on stage!" Goals for 2013 include touring, releasing an album, as well as playing several festivals. Recently C.O.S has been getting booked for larger shows, including several with Aaron Nazrul and the Boom Booms, a show with The fab Tiff Hall, and a recent gig with the popular band Lillix. City of Sparks has also recently hit the Granville Entertainment District in Vancouver, playing The Roxy in early December and Joe's Apartment in January. C.O.S is also a participant in the 2013 CBC Searchlight contest, which carries a prize of $20,000 worth of gear and the title of Canada's best new band! They have also just recently started recording tracks for their debut EP, and the recording should be finished by March 15th. The varied musical influences of each member of the band have produced a somewhat diverse sound, however, when listening; you always know when you are hearing a City of Sparks song. With countless classic rock, alternative, and modern rock and folk influences, this band combines the grittiness of old-time rock and roll, with the smooth sounds of todays rock, folk, and pop artists.
City of Sparks bridges generations with their classic rock sound combined with modern musical influences and they are excited to bring to the table an eclectic array of original tunes.
